The Vancouver Sky

Living in Vancouver, you can’t ignore the sky.

It has an overwhelming presence in all seasons and truly makes the landscape come to life. It’s a photographer’s paradise. Except for a few days when the light conditions are washed out (those rare sunny summer days), it’s difficult to not get a good shot. The high latitude (49° 15′ 0″ N) makes dawn and dusk last forever.

Here are some of the moments I captured while traveling in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, with my Canon EOS 50D (17-85mm lens) camera.

Concept Environment

A quick concept sketch/illustration for an environment where egg shaped creatures have a mind of their own! I created different layers  to form the foreground, middleground and background that could be used to give a parallax effect in a game engine. Interactive objects are in sharp contrast to the background. Using modular design in the trees will make it easier to animate individual objects without reaching sprite sheet size issues in game engines. I will post further images if this environment gets a chance to expand to different levels!

Bittbox Free Texture Tuesdays

Bittbox is a great design resource website with Freebies that have been very handy in my projects. I love their Free Texture Tuesdays. I use them as masked textures in Illustrator within vector drawings. They have also given out some great free Hi Res Grunge Brush Sets that were a delight to work with.

Here are some examples of things I was able to do with them…
